Wonderful jazz show a la 1930s :)

I am working this weekend… but it is the labour of love! 🙂 Last year a lovely lady booked my jazz trio for a very special birthday party taking place in her house in Devon.. a special birthday do with a 1920s theme :). I am so much looking forward to singing some of the most famous jazz tunes wearing a 1920s inspired dress. red feather boa and a string of pearls 🙂 AND accompanied by top London jazz musicians Nick Webster on double bass and Benjamin Croft on piano. We are driving together to the sea side and will be hosted by the birthday lady spending the night outside London. And we are being paid and fed 🙂 How not to be happy? 🙂                 I am truly honoured every time I get to add some music & joy to someone’s event & celebration. And very happy so many of my clients thank me afterwards with numerous emails & reviews 🙂 When you do what you love, you never work 🙂 Indeed! it is indeed pure pleasure 🙂 Maja www.livejazzsinger.com ...

Filming a commercial

….. is a lot of fun! A lot of hard work too, but mostly fun 🙂 Last year I auditioned for a commercial… not a big role but a nice one. Every actor knows commercials are all about looks and luck –  they audition hundreds of people and all is about the right look so you may do your best but not be chosen due to someone in the marketing team of the product thinking they need a more blond or more brunette or more this or that actor / actress. So it is rare people get confirmed for a lot of commercial work… I have always known that, BUT at the same time, & around the time of the casting for that project I decided to be positive and ask universe for what I wanted no matter what.. It is not easy – seeing others equally good and prepared, worrying about your looks including cat scratches on your hand ;), worrying about the right make up etc etc etc. All decided in minutes! Yet, throughout the whole process, I promised myself I would stay positive… even when in a terrible accident I cut my head in the middle of the night and had to be rushed to emergency  – even then, crying like a baby I explained to the doctor on call that they have to put great stitches on my wound because ” I am shooting a commercial in January” despite having no confirmation at the time.  Yesterday it all happened as I imagined – I was dressed in some beautiful clothes and with some lovely people worked on...

Surprising fan mail about my music :)

Isn’t it lovely when we get lovely kind words from lovely strangers when we least expect it? I am a very lucky girl – I received two super kind emails / posts about my songs totally unexpectedly 🙂 You can read the lovely blog post about the little me here: http://oceanicblueuk.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/jazz-singersongwriter-extraordinaire.html And just before that, someone tweeted to me: “Just caught your #music on #SoundCloud and that is some of the best I have listened to in a while. What a great voice..!” – oh bless 🙂 I am all red faced now, big and very kind words 🙂 I hope your new week started equally well 🙂 With hugs – Maja...

Live recording of some of my latest songs

Just before Christmas break last year, I went to a mini home studio of a pianist & composer Simon Wallace & recorded live takes of some of my latest songs. You can listen to this humble playlist on https://soundcloud.com/petal-music/sets/live-london-dec-2014  You can find lyrics to each of the song in the description of the link. Luckily, I managed to have an Essex based photographer & videographer (& a bass player) & another Simon film me & create mini videos for each song. There is more to come very soon 🙂 Enjoy Thank you for listening 🙂 Maja (Petal)...
